For Designers
Silk is an entirely new way to produce dynamic websites. It offers all the basic CMS features your clients have come to expect with the flexibility to add dynamic content whenever it's needed.
How does it work?
Think of Silk as a content management engine, rather than a standalone product. It allows you to design a new website in the usual way then drop in a few special tags to give your clients an elegant unbranded administration interface they can use to update their site. Get up and running quickly with sensible default settings, or tweak to perfection.
Freedom to create
Design without constraints using the software you already know and love. If you already know how to make a static website by hand or using Dreamweaver®, you'll be able to make a dynamic website using Silk in no time at all. From traditional layouts to complex designs, tag soup to XHTML Strict, Silk handles any design you throw at it.
Feature Building Blocks
Silk offers unlimited dynamic functionality by providing re-usable building blocks, rather than hundreds of inflexible 'one-click' features. By following our ever-expanding Recipe Guide you'll soon be easily adding Contact Us forms, Top 10 News Stories list, Menus, FAQ pages, Image Galleries and much more to your clients sites.
Unlimited Flexibility
No programming knowledge is required to use Silk's many features, but if you're willing to learn a little Ruby on Rails (or find a friendly developer), you'll be able to extend any standard Silk website into a fully custom-built web application.
Managed and supported
Silk websites are expertly hosted on dedicated servers housed at Rackspace. We take care of all the essential configuration and maintenance tasks whilst addressing any scalability requirements in the future. Most importantly, every part of the Silk system is lovingly supported by a company which understands good web design and firmly believes in Doing The Right Thing.
Community
Building a website is usually a team effort. As the trend towards freelancing and small agile teams continues, we're going to be working on new ways for designers and developers to collaborate on projects together. It is our ongoing goal to make this process easier and support a vibrant community of creative professionals.
How does it work?
Silk does some very clever things, but there's no need to learn magic. Just buy a Silk website as you would a standard web hosting account and follow our Design Integration Guide. And remember, we're here to help if you need us.
