Can I buy domain names from Aconix?

Not just yet, but we will be introducing this shortly. For now, please buy new domain names from a third party provider like GoDaddy.com then follow the "Configuring your Domain Name(s)" instructions in the Getting Started Guide to point each domain at your new website.

Can I point multiple domain names to the same Silk website?

Sure. Please contact us to let us know the details and we will update our systems.

Is there a limit to how many pages I can make on a Silk website?

No at all. Create as many pages, snippets or users as you like.

Can I host multiple Silk websites on one account?

No. Although multiple domain names may be forwarded to one website, they must all point to the same Silk website files and database.

Do you offer an option to pay monthly?

Not at the moment, but we will be introducing this shortly.

Can I phone you for a chat?

Of course! We're based in the UK, so if you're calling internationally remember to dial +44 114 281 3535 during 9am - 5pm GMT.

If I change my mind in the future and need to leave, can I still access my data?

Absolutely! You have complete and open access to all parts of your Silk website at all times, including the MySQL database.

What is your policy on refunds?

We're sure you'll love your new Silk website, but if you you choose to cancel we are able to offer a pro-rata refund. We will reimburse you for the remaining months left on your Silk website up to a maximum of 10 months.

Can I use Silk to host an Adult Website?

No. Hosting of adult sites is a specialist market which we have no plans to enter.

Can I run PHP, ASP, Java, etc code on your servers?

No. Our hosting platform is carefully optimized to run Silk websites only. By choosing one technology (Ruby on Rails) we are able to offer much greater performance, reliability, security and technical support than typical hosting companies.

Can Silk handle e-commerce websites?

We will be building optional e-commerce functionality into Silk in the future, but there are many other features we want to build and perfect before we get our teeth into such a meaty project. In the meantime, Rails developers can extend Silk with their own custom e-commerce functionality. You may install the ActiveMerchant plugin on your website and SSL certificates are available if required.

Is Silk open source software?

Many elements of Silk are already open source and our main Javascript display components will be released under the GPL license shortly. The remaining code is commercial but not proprietary: whilst you're not able to use it on your own projects, you are able to view all of the Silk source code and extend it if required.

Do you provide email hosting/forwarding with Silk websites?

This is something we can arrange, but until it can be purchased online we would recommend using a third party provider such as GoDaddy.com. If you're using our free DNS hosting (ns1.aconix.com and ns2.aconix.com) we will happily add an MX record to your domain if required.

How long will it take to setup my new website?

Orders will normally be processed same business day, but please allow up to 48 hours at weekends. Once your new website account has been created, we'll send the details to you by email so you may begin working on the website straight away.
